(NOT) SUITED FOR PUBLIC CONSUMPTION

concept art by nana chuto

(NOT) SUITED FOR PUBLIC CONSUMPTION is a cautionary tale that transports the listener to a live radio broadcast from a not-so-distant future. As listeners, we experience this musical narrative and we take this journey together. It is haunted by ubiquitous codification and commercialization of a reality not so different from our own. The project incorporates ideas of Asian Futurism as a tool to create narratives around the Asian diaspora as well as reimagine a decolonized future.

The retro aesthetic of the album highlights our romanticization of the past and a longing to return to “better times”, a symptom of our materialistic society. The songs pay homage to jazz, house, and Asian disco/funk to highlight our collective nostalgia for the past. I will also weaponize these styles to provoke questions about hyper consumerism and how it ties to modern day loneliness.

SYBIL: artificial Intelligence as the future of music-making

COMING SOON IN 2025

SYBIL is my AI replica as well as the main protagonist of the album. In the story, SYBIL is a once beloved idol singer/android that is falling out of relevance.

I will be collaborating with Brandon Choi, musician and coder, and Zubin Hensler (The Westerlies, Half Waif, Hannah Epperson, Vieux Farka Toure, etc.), producer, to create SYBIL and compose the music they will be singing. AI is an extension of ourselves, and we want to demonstrate that people can have meaningful musical dialogues with machines. We are implementing AI-based technology to create a voicebank with my own voice as its basis, and we will use this voicebank in conjunction with AI in order to perform with myself and others.I believe AI-technology can lead to more innovative ways of creating. I want to work towards a future where AI can be a collaborator for musicians and SYBIL is just another step forward in that direction.
